FAQ

How do I compare the different ways your window films protect against heat, glare, fading and ultraviolet light?

All of our Vista window films reject 99.9% of the ultraviolet light. Basically, our more reflective films reduce the most heat, but we do have special films that reduce heat without losing a considerable amount of  visible light. For a detailed comparison of our different window films, check out our window film products.

How often does the window film have to be replaced?

Contrary to what most people think, the window films we offer do not need to be replaced every couple years like automobile tint. In fact, some of our customers have been enjoying the tint on their windows for over twenty years. Though the actual longevity of the film will vary in different circumstances, the products we offer should last at least fifteen years.

Can the film be removed later if we decide we don't want it anymore?

Unlike factory tinted glass, the Vista Window Film and Llumar Safety and Security Films we offer are attached to the glass by a strong adhesive that allows the film to be removed without damaging the glass at any time.

What is the warranty on the window film?

All of our residential Vista window films come with a lifetime warranty against peeling, cracking, demetallization and delamination (excluding Low-E ceramic film). In addition, Vista offers a ten-year warranty for commercial applications.

Will the window tinting void my window manufacturer's warranty?

Unfortunately, some window manufacturers do void the glass warranty when window film is applied. However, there is good news. Customers choosing any of our Vista window films receive a manufacturer’s warranty that warrants against failure of the glass for seal failure for a period of thirty-six months if covered by the original seal unit manufacturer. Vista window films also warrants against thermal shock fracture for a period of sixty months for up to $500.00 per window.

What happens if my window manufacturer warranty exceeds the thirty-six months for seal failure?

For an additional fee, we offer the Vista Gold warranty that matches the window manufacturer’s warranty to protect against the possibility of seal failure that may occur after the thirty-six month period.

Does the window film go on the inside or outside of the window?

In most cases, the window film is installed on interior side of the window. Interior application helps the film last longer and protects it from the exterior elements. However, the more durable anti-graffiti films are applied to the exterior of the windows to protect the windows from vandalism, which typically occurs on the exterior side of the windows.

Will the film installation be messy? Will the installation involve any odor?

Conejo Window Tinting prides itself on maintaining a clean work environment and makes every effort to protect furniture and carpets during film installations. Our window tint specialists first prepare the windows for the film by making sure the glass surface is washed and clean. Only then is the film applied to the glass in a manner that is similar to the hanging of wallpaper. The entire process is neat and all furniture that is moved is returned to its original location after the film is installed. Since no harsh smelling chemicals are used during the installation, there is no odor as a result of the film installations

Are there any chemicals used in the installation?

The window film is installed with a soapy water solution. There are no chemicals used.

Do I need to clean my windows before your tint specialists come out for the film application?

There is nothing you need to do to clean the windows before the window tint installation. Our tint specialists conduct a thorough window cleaning before applying the film to make sure that dirt and other impurities are not trapped between the film and the glass.

Will the film application make the room too dark?

Fortunately, we have a wide variety of window film products that range from a completely clear appearance to a total blackout look. In addition, we offer complimentary consultations to help customers address their specific concerns. Since Conejo Window Tinting has been giving individualized window tint recommendations since 1971, we are well suited to address your particular needs.

Does the film bubble or turn purple like I’ve seen on car windows that are tinted?

The film that is applied to cars and houses is very different and involves very different methods of application. The window films we carry will not bubble or turn purple. In fact, the Vista window films we carry come with a lifetime residential warranty against bubbling and discoloration. In addition, Vista offers a ten-year warranty for commercial applications against bubbling and discoloration.

Do the window film offer any additional privacy?

Depending on whether you are looking for more privacy in the day or more in the night, we have films that can address your privacy concerns. Specifically, we have reflective films that offer privacy during the day, but also opaque films that provide privacy at all times.

How do I clean the windows after they have been tinted?

First, mix a couple of drops of ordinary dishwashing liquid with water in a spray bottle. Then lightly spray the window with the solution and wipe it down with a soft cotton cloth or clean synthetic sponge. After applying the solution to the entire window, lightly dry the window with a dry cloth or squeegee. To avoid excessive streaking, we recommend washing the window when the sun is directly not on it.

Do I still need window tint if I already have Low-E or a factory tint?

Low-E films block about 44% of the ultraviolet light, while Vista window films block 99.9%. Generally, any type of glass can be improved with our films, but discussing your particular situation with our friendly and knowledgeable staff through a complimentary consultation would certainly be the best way to weigh your options.

Do dual pane windows explode after being tinted?

Contrary to another common belief, dual pane windows do not spontaneously explode after being tinted. However, some darker films will put more stress on the glass than there would be without the tint. To minimize applying excessive pressure to dual pane glass, each of our tint specialists follows the Vista ‘film to glass’ guideline for proper film application.

Can my skylights be tinted?
